Sahib Shihab for Debut Denmark from 1963.
Sahib Shihab - Alto Sax,Baritone Sax,Flute; Allan Botschinsky - Flugelhorn; Ole Molin - Guitar ;
Niels -Henning Orsted Pederson - Bass; Alex Riel - Drums; Bjarne Rostovold - Snare Drum
All killer modal to bossa to blues business from this terrific super rarity recorded during Mr. Gregory's long sojourn in Scandinavia supported by a veritable who's who of then emerging Danish talent.
I've ripped it from the oop Japanese cd reissue but used the original lp format for this post. I couldn't stretch to the wallet pounding price of an original lp!

Thanks Bacoso for the Jazz Party ... and the chance to hear these lesser known European Issues ... Baron
Great to see Edmund Gregory and the danish crew getting the respect they deserve - Bravo Bacoso!

Thanks Bacoso for sharing this gem.Your blog has provided me with countless hours of listening pleasure!
Thank you very much
soo good. thanks for sharing Bacoso.
This album, cut live in Copenhagen in '63, is a rolling joy. Led in by Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson's walking bass, and the twin-drum kits of Alex Riel and Bjarne Rostovold, opening track, 4070 Blues, comes on like some pastoral theme tune from the wildest ever '70s kids' TV show, Shihab's urgent, rough-house flute wigging out and digging in as the rhythm section keep it moving ever forward, like some carnival of woodland animals hopped up on mushrooms and licorice root. Shihab's clenched, cautious introduction to Charade - "The title... song... from... the Stanley. Donen. Pro. Duction. A UNI! Versal release... titled 'Sharard' or 'Sha-raid'..." - suggest that he may not have been completely sober during the recording, but his playing, as soloist and bandleader is totally in control, pulling the band on a twisting, mystical ride that conjures up images of Cary Grant's Euro playboy world wrenched at the seams by free psychedelic revolution.
More class, thanks Bacoso
Tremendous post! What I love about this blog is the selfless attitude to sharing and the unpatronising attitude of Bacoso.Us lucky readers get a quality rip of the full lp PLUS a write up which isn't full of smug self satisfaction about owning the album and condescendingly giving us a chance to hear just one track.
Thanks Bacoso long may your work continue!
Thanks for this excellent post that reflects the excitement of hearing Shahib Shihab live. He came often to Brussels but I was a bit too young at the time to be allowed into jazz clubs (and didn't have much money either ... although the late Pol from the famous Pol's Jazz Club was always keen on seeing youth showing interest in jazz and there would be an occasional free beer as an encouragement).
Cheers
My comment regarding a certain condescending and patronising blog was not aimed at katonah who I just noticed left the comment before mine.
Great lp all the way , a beautiful listen . Thanks for the share . Fantastic blog .
Peace
Thousands thanks, Bacoso !

Bacoso,
many years ago, perhaps five I don`t remeber, I begun to access my first Sahib`s albuns thanks to you.
And this road goes on!
Thanks again for your good taste & generosity!
Thank you so much, can't wait to hear that!
I agree with the previous commenters that this is a superb album. I rate it 5 stars!
I don't wish to sound ungrateful, but are these not the same tracks that can be found on Conversations (1963), released 1992 on Black Lion?
Superb LP.
Rarely comment, but will use this as a bulk thankyou for the following:
Mal Waldron - Spanish Bitch
Sadao - live
Michael Cochrane - Elements
It's a Great site, thanks.
merci
don - you are correct however the black lion release was licenced to Japan where it was reissued with the original cover art plus the bonus tracks as well.As I wrote in my blurb I have ripped the cd to match the original vinyl format. Funnily enough the Japanese issue uses the original cover art and is packaged in a fascimile mini lp sleeve yet when you get the cd out its marked Black Lion!!!
B-Man
Chazzy here. You Sexy MF it's been while.IMHO this is one of those Lp's I would keep and start robbing old ladies instead if I needed the dough rather than sell.Wish I had and orig of this.Swanso is great for putting this and Aravanitas "Soul Jazz" out.Glad to be back.
Chazzzzzz
Wow... another bang!
Great,
what to say

Cheers.
This one's a burning beauty. I am grateful to have it. Thanks Bacoso.
Have Conversations as mp3, but looking forward to seeing the alternative packaging. Many thanks...
