Sadao Watanabe Quartet for CBS Sony Japan from 1975.
Sadao Watanabe (as,fl,sn) , Takehiro Honda(p) , Osamu Kawakami (b) , Shinji Mori (ds)
Recorded at Montreux this powerful acoustic quartet session continues to reflects the African influences prevalent in Watanabes mid 70s sets "Mabali Africa" & "Kenya Ya Africa ".
Over 5 original compositions Watanabe blows long and hard his playing a million miles from the fusion fluff he was to churn out in later years while Takehiro Honda nearly steals the show with his thunderous piano runs and vamps.

Powerful stuff. Many thanks, Bacoso.
全キラー無フィラー indeed, love it from start to end, thanks bacoso.
aww bacoso, you don't like fusion?
I've heard some Sadao Watanabe before, and i couldn't be bothered, really.
I wasn't expecting much.
But i like this though. Nice!
Thanks.
Freebones: the list of fusion lps posted at this blog is too long to go into here and to be honest comments like yours are really not worth publishing. However I am not here to censor visitors opinions so your ignorant dig is shown above.Even with ears of cloth anyone familiar with Watanabes Fusak output since the 80s should understand my reference to “fusion fluff”.
Feq'wahs timely comment just goes to prove my point - not that proof be needed in this case.
Wow, just wow! A great set and completely unknown to me, where do you find this stuff? Just a gem, thanks!
Never heard this Watanabe album before, very anxoius to get to hear it!! So nice to still discover new albums like this.. thanks!
That´s the way it is... More more more... Thank you!
William
A lot more than just nice — outstanding, I'd say.
A great post, Bacoso!
the piano destroys! thanks Bacoso!
Had to come back to thank you again!! just started listening to the album... Takehiro Honda is REALLY KILLING IT!!!! :)
Wonderful wonderful!
Nice.
Thanks.
So much good stuff on your fantastic blog. It's just so wonderful. Much love.
Hi Bacoso - I appreciate this one. Watanable and Honda are both masters. As for the discussion above - there's good fusion and then there's fusak (great term). Somewhere in my closet I've got a couple of fusion albums Honda did as a member of Native Son, which I haven't heard for years - I'll have to pull them out and decide whether I still think they're good.
more Sadao Watanabe!
this band sounds so tight. wish i could have seen him play then. thank god for recordings like these,
and to you Bacoso for keeping it alive.

Quick question has anyone got a post for the Pamoja album?
Cheers Paul James
pauljames:I've got Pamoja on lp might post it at some point in the future.
ooh la la! this is smokin'!!
Tre-fucking-mendous
Big ups.
I haven't heard this yet, but I really wish that I'd done more jamming with some of the guys I taught with in Japan. It was my experience that a lot of the really good Japanese English teachers I worked with were into either the martial arts, jazz, or both.
Hi Bacoso!
Discovered the blog just today and I found a lot of tremendous Japanese Jazz Stuff!!
You did a huge job!!
Could you please post again this and the other J-jazz music no longer available?
I would be very , very grateful to you!!
Many, many thanks!!
