NATE MORGAN - RETRIBUTION REPARATION

Nate Morgan for Nimbus from 1984.

Danny Cortez(tp)Jesse Sharps(ss,ts,bs)Nate Morgan(p)Joel Ector(b)Fritz Wise(ds)

Dusty Groove on the case:Great soul jazz from the LA underground! Pianist Nate Morgan plays in the tradition of McCoy Tyner and Stanley Cowell, with a swirling spiritual feel that's deeply rooted in a Love Supreme tradition. On this LP, he leads a quintet with Jesse Sharps on reeds and Danny Cortez on trumpet and the record's filled with spiralling modal grooves that glisten with the best of the 70s soul jazz underground. The set's a great batch of original compositions by Morgan, including "U.G.M.A.A.G.E.R", "Impulse", and "Mass Madness" and also includes versions of Herbie Hancock's "One Finger Snap" and Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday"

More posts from the Nimbus lable are available at Katonah's excellent new blog "PRIVATE PRESS"

I'M NOW AWAY FOR WEEK GETTING THE LAST OF THE SUMMER SUN AND PLENTY OF SAN MIGUEL-SEE YOU SOON!!!

I've got to say, OIR was always the first (and best) of the jazz blogs. Really pleased you're back in action again.
Thanks so much for this -- and for all the killer posts.

Thanks a millions and wlcome back.
What a great album. Yet another artist you've introduced me to that I didn't now about. Your taste is impeachable.

Oops! I meant unimpeachable, but you knew that, right? Where's that embarassed emoticon when you need it.

I had to sign up to a Google account just to say - THANKS! You and the likes of El Reza, El Goog Ja, Never Enough Rhodes, Pharaos Dance and the rest of you - you have all taken me into a path I´ve been seeking since my youth-heydays - The Spiritual one..Finally I have found that kind of jazz I have been searching ever since I heard that music that enchanted me as a kid. Finally I have names, labels and so forth to take me further on my quest of eternal bliss! Your guidance have sent vibes up my cortex, flashes up my spine - and you have litteraly lighten up my soul. I salute you all!

Kind sir, is there any way that you coud re upload that masterpice, "Mood Is Modal" that you created a couple years ago. That was some of the most beautiful music I ever heard, Walt Dickerson's, "Death & Taxes", "The Love Theme From Spartacus", by Yusef Lateef and "Pavanne", by James Clay are just a few of the highlights. Even my wife, who doesn't like jazz, loves this CD. Help!!! Thanks.
