Yusef Lateef for Atlantic from 1975
Dusty Groove :A spacious mid 70s set from Yusef Lateef -- with some numbers showing his more soaringly spiritual bent -- and others hewing towards a more bluesy or loosely funky vein. Tracked live in San Francisco, some numbers were later augmented with overdubbed strings and vocals there's some nicely thumping elements of earthy percussion, loose moments, and quiet passages that sometimes build slowly, and at others change abruptly for maximum impact. The set features several longer selections, including the suite divided "Samba De Amor" in three sections, plus "Yusef's Mood" and "I Be Cold" all approach or crossing the 20 minute mark -- plus nice takes on "But Beautiful" and " A Flower". The group features Kenny Barron on piano and cowbell, Bob Cunningham on bass and bells, Albert Kuumba Heath on percussion and flute, and Bill Salter on bass alongside Lateef whose working with tenor sax, flutes, oboe, thumb piano and percussion

Oh man, I love Yusef Lateef! Never heard this one before.
Thanks!
Bacoso rules! I've been so longing for that one: used to have it on vinyl but lost with some friend. Nevermind, music is in the air, only listening needs your heart & time…
super duper drop bacoso!
big thanks man!
I've been listening to this album quite a bit lately. I have a question concerning the first cut: Is the jarring Time Montage a studio thing, or was that a sudden turn during the concert date? For some reason my ears can't parse it out. I know Lateef liked to sneak in What the??? moments, like with Hey Jude, but if it was a studio addition, then he possibly spliced it over the top of what could have been a good drum solo...?
thanks for this ex album
Never should have sold this back when--thanks for the 2nd chance to hear this!
