Adele Sebastian for Nimbus West from 1978.
Adele Sebastian-Flute.Vocals ;Billy Higgins-Drums,Gembreh ;Roberto Miranda-Bass ;Bobby West-Piano ;Rickey Kelley-Marimba ;Daa'oud Woods-Percussion
Terrific album of spiritual jazz - another one for the flute freaks !
From the liner notes:
Adele Sebastian joined the Pan Afrikaan Peoples Orchestra in the early 70s as a teenager. She played in the band until her death in 1983 of kidney failure at the age of 27.She rarely missed a rehearsal or performance.Remarkable since for a considerable length of time before her demise she had to go into a dialysis machine once a month to stay alive. She was an inspiration to everyone involved with her.
Dusty Groove say this:
A beautiful set of 70s soul jazz flute tracks featuring work by flautist Adele Sebastian, with backing by a hip group that includes Billy Higgins, Ricky Kelly, and Roberto Miranda. The tracks have a nice mellow Strata East/Black Jazz kind of sound to them and the production is equally hip and mellow, with a soulful approach that's righteous and gentle at the same time.
Ripped from the 2000 reissue on cd @320-expect to pay $100+ for the original vinyl according to soulstrut.

Incredible post!
Thanks a bunch Bacoso- I only knew this LP from a wonderful track on the luv'n'haight "California Soul" compilation, which I loved. Didn't know she died so early though, it's such a shame.
And I didn't know either that Billy Higgins played on that one- one of my favorite drummers ever.
thank you--
thanks bacoso, looking forward to checking this out tonight

i've always been impressed with the nimbus catalogue of releases, but they're so hard to find these days. i posted two of mrufa nate morgan's lp's @ (http://birdswithbrokenwings.blogspot.com/2007/11
/spiritual-jazz-of-mrufa-nate-morgan.html) some time back ('retribution, reparation' & 'journey into nigrita'). thanks for tracking down adele sebastian! a gorgeous recording!
reza has also posted another nimbus date recently, horace tapscott's 'the call' with the pan-afrikan peoples arkestra @ http://elreza.blogspot.com/
thanks again!
This is big I was listening to one of the tunes off this on the quincy essential podcast, this is heavy!!! Sorry to be irratating but I noticed in your BIG TOP TEN list a record by the new jazz orchestra!!!! do you actually have Le Dejuner Sur L'Herbe I have been looking for that for soooooo long the title track is INCREDIBLE heard it on the Gilles Peterson Impressed 2 compilation.

Is the title of track 1 "Desert Fairy Princess"? (It just says "track 1")
Thank you for posting this beautiful piece of jazz. I do have it on CD already but like one of the previous commentators I was not aware that she passed away so young which is very sad. Well worth hearing if you don't already have.
swboy-thats the one.
Yo Bacoso, thanks again for posting another gem up. Your blog is amazing! I'll be sure to share some music with you once my blog is up and running.

Thanks for this. I also have the Daydreamer track on 'California Soul' that Ubiquity put out and it's nice to hear the whole album that it comes from.

Great post, though.

Thanks again!

Thank you,very nice
Much appreciated...stay faithful!!
Please don't download this.Buy it from Tom Albach at Nimbus West.He is 83 and is responsible for getting down Tapscott and al The increible Arkestra LP's.He still has many CD's (cheap at $12) of Curtis Counce,Nate Morgan, and (hopefully soon) another pressing of Dadisi Komolafe's "Hassan's Walk".The guy is 83 and still has a lot of piss and vinnegar and is owed a great debet to get this material out.Try Horace Tappscott Live IUUC" double CD.At ww.nibuswest.copm you can hear clips.Guys like him and Henry Franklin who were sdissed by coportae mdeia (and reviewers) suck so he's earned it.Pick up where it all left of with muisc of Dwight Trible and The Ark.
Peace Chazz

Can anyone tell me where I can get any LP/CD, especially and LP with Adele Sebastian featured? I know about Desert Fairy Princess and have the CD, but there are several other albums she was on. I'm not sure how to contact Nimbus West. Adele is my 16 year old daughter's half sister(same dad) and we would love to find anything we can. Has much sentimental meaning to her.
Adele was my aunt, my late father's sister. I was 8 years old when she died. She suffered from Lupus, but wouldn't stop playing and singing. Our whole family is musical, or artistic in some way. It's very exciting to see her work live on!
