SAHIB SHIHAB - COMPANIONSHIP

Sahib Shihab for Vogue - the third and last time of posting.
I have had a number of requests for this since some asshole took the trouble to get my original files deleted.I finally got round to ripping it again but this time @320.This rip is also free of background noise which plagued my original vinyl share-take it from me,never buy an audio cd recorder!!!
Two files - HERE and HERE.

Here's a real rarity and my number one desert island disc - it's this little beauty on German Vogue from Sahib Shihab. This also contains my favourite tune "Om Mani Padme Hum" penned by the wonderful Francy Boland. This double album has it all from frantic banging percussive workouts to modal numbers to beautiful ballads, all performed by Francy,Kenny Clarke,Jimmy Woode,Fats Sadi,Benny Bailey,Ake Persson and even Milt Jackson on vocal on one track. It's a staggeringly good piece of music and worth every penny of the HUGE price tag it commands.

Thanks for the re-rip. Got it the first time around and this is appreciated.

Dude, thanks awfully. I am downloading as if there was no tomorrow... I was flabbergasted by Pedro Ruy Blas, I'va always loved flamenco and have a few hundred flamenco records and never heard of him, even though we live in the same town. It's funny when some outsider shows you what you've never noticed round the corner. Thanks again. If ever you need some music, please tell me.

Many many thanks, Bacoso, for this nice (cough) CD-rip! Sounds great. Crispi (smart-assin' ;)

Just adding my thanks for the re-rip.

bacoso said...

hey crispi-no need to cough!!!(lol)Its ripped from the 3 Schema reissues which have all been remastered. As you alude to on your 2nd comment there's still one track which i pulled from the vinyl which doesnt appear on the cds.Just couldn't face pulling off the vinyl yet again(the original cd i ripped it to was a cdrw and i saved it at the lower bit rate)so figured this was an easier option. If anyone wants my original vinyl ripped leave a comment-if there's enough of you I'll do it.
Incidentally can downloaders leave a comment if my vinyl rips have the high pitched feedback in the background on them.I think the problems cracked but then it comes back to bite me in the ass again. As you may guess I dont listen to my rips before upping them-time is of the essence for me.
And last but not least I recently got a clean copy of George Braith's Musart so watch out for a repost. The original post is from my Prestige first pressing that sure has seen some action!!!

Bacoso,

I haven't visited OIR in a while, shame on me! I am really happy to see this posted again, I have been trying to get it on vinyl for quite some time. BIG, warm thanks for the share!

Bacoso, thank you for allowing yourself do clean this up and re-up it. The last copy that I saw on ebay ended up selling for over $950!!!! I'm not kidding, go look it up folks! Anyway, thanks to all who pestered you and for going to the trouble. It means a lot that you would; my ears are peeled here for that George Braith!

By the looks of the comments, this si going to be a treat. Know the name but not familiar with the music, so thank you for the kind introduction.

Re your comments on recording: I went through a period of digitising and also bought a CD Recorder. Results were not outstanding, to say the least. I bought a piece of Edirol hardware to plug between my pre-amp and my PC. USB, so bypassed the (very noisy) sound card on the PC. Monitored and adjusted sound levels using Sound Forge. Much, much better quality!

Thanks for a wonderfull share.
I don't hear any feedback, but there are some cut off intros and outros in the first folder.

crispi said...

The intros are not cut off, they're just at the end of the preceding song. So the start and end point of the songs are a little off. But if you hear them gaplessly, there should be no problem. Most players now support gapless playback.

Many many thanks for this. Sahib Shihab are one of the best - no doubt. Love and Light.

I meant to comment before on some of your other posts, so big apologies for being a lazy arse. This is a splendid post and your blog is a must for any self respecting jazz fan. Thanks for all the hard work you put in. Do you ever post sleeve scans like some other bloggers, because it would be nice to have a decent sleeve for this gem.

Thanks for the repost! It was searching the internet for information on Sahib Shihab that lead me to this blog. Anyhow, I'm enjoying this great album again now! That Danish Radio LP you posted ages ago is on of my favorites also!

Such a great record thanks a lot, also thanks for the tip on the Schema reissue's, I'm going to have to get this one...

bacoso said...

beathunters-tracks are all tagged with correctly ordered sequential numbers. If it says track 1 (om mani padme hum)then thats what it is.

greg said...

Thanks much for the Shihab. He's wonderful but scarce.

NA said...

Dear Bacoso,
Could you please list the exact order of the tracks of this jewel?
on both records they are just in alphabetic sequence.
Thanks again and best regards.
