RAICES

Raices for Nemperor from 1975.
A fantastic piece of obscure latin recorded in Miami and produced by Bruce Botnick(who had previously produced both The Doors and MC5 !!!)
Ace latin percussionist Sammy Figueroa was behind this project after his first professional experience came at the age of 18 with the band of bassist Bobby Valentin. During that time he co-founded this innovative fusion Brazilian/Latin group with Rafael Cruz, which broke ground for many of today’s bands.
A near perfect blend of both Puerto Rican and Brazilian influences which moves from 100mph latin flyers to funky breaks this is another post worthy of the accolade :
All Killer,No Filler !!!
Highly Recommended.
No reissues in any format-ripped from the original vinyl @320

Thanks Bacoso, have always enjoyed this album and my copy is beat up from constant play over the years, so a quality rip is much appreciated.

Completely unrelated but here's a link to a Sadao Watanabe's Pamoja on East Wind that you might appreciate. Also - do you still need the Gerardo Frisina ?

P.S. - whilst you are in the latin mood any chance of a re-up on the Wilfredo Stephenson at some time in the future ?

vichakani-quite a coincidence but i bought a copy of pamoja on ebay last week from tokyo dealer(along with 4 other jap jazz lps)and am awaiting delivery as i write.Your rip is most appreciated none the less to wet my appettite before the vinyl arrives!
Yep still after the frisina if you could oblige. And if you bear with me I'll get wilfredo sorted in the next few weeks-watch this space.
Did you take your name from the track "vichakani" on pamoja?

Thanks Bacoso, much appreciated, will get the Frisina sorted for you.

I did indeed take my name from this track....for the very simple reason that I was listening to it at the time I was choosing a name, so it seemed as good a name as any. Still, it is a great track, just loving Honda's piano work on this track and notable because Watanabe showcases his talents on the flute for this track. Check out Pamoja also, which is a really strong uptempo dancer, with a little more emphasis on Sadao's sax work, with the rhythm section killing it. I've got a few more bits of interest in the pipeline (Sonny Fortune, Carlos Garnett, Ronnie April, Doug Richardson, Johnny Walker to name a few off the top of my head), I'll let you know when they're ready to share.

Hi Bacoso! Still in the Japonese Jazz.. Ever heard Shibuya Jazz Classics collections?

Juliana from http://jazzmanmp3.blogspot.com/ has posted 8 of them.

Well worth checking! Features Kyoto Jazz Massive Collection, Gilles Peterson Collection, Toshio Matsuura Collection, Monday Michiru Collection (Toshiko Akiyoshi Issue), Sleep Walker Collection, amongst others.

By the way, is swami-hermitus-solus going to come back? Hope you two still keep in touch..
