HORACE SILVER - SILVER 'N WOOD

The second of five LPs that find Horace Silver's Quintet which by 1976 featured trumpeter Tom Harrell and tenor-saxophonist Bob Berg augmented by a group of other players, this set has six reeds and two trombones, giving Silver more tone colors to work with than usual. The two sidelong works -"The Tranquilizer Suite" and "The Process of Creation Suite"- are not that memorable but the music overall (helped out by strong solos) is typical Silver hard bop. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Check out the intense "Time and Effort"-relentless piano riff ,driving horns and Al Foster in thumping form-What a tune !

I was lead to your blog to finish my Silver series. Silver 'N Wood is the final piece. Is there an active link to that archive that you know of? Many thanks.

The Silver Series is a nice set to have in your collection. Silver 'N Brass, Silver 'N Percussion, Silver 'N Strings, Silver 'N Voices, and Silver 'N Wood should all be re-released for the public to be able to buy. I know it may not be too extremely profitable for the industry, but serious collectors would surely buy them. I, myself, know many who are looking for these who do not own a record player. Maybe someday we will all get lucky and they will see the light.

Silver 'N Brass - 1975
Silver 'N Percussion - 1977
Silver 'N Strings Play the Music of the Spheres - 1980
Silver 'N Voices - 1976
Silver 'N Wood - 1976
